Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety can feel like it controls our lives. We spend time fearing what could happen and always seeming to see the worst case scenario. Even when it doesn’t happen, it feels like we’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop. This can lead to troubles concentrating, sleeping, making decisions, and feeling more irritable. It can even have physical effects, we tremble, sweat, have heart palpitations, feel uncomfortable or unsafe being where we are. This leads us to try and avoid whatever causes the anxiety, but in the long run that only tends to make it worse.

Treating anxiety is done by first establishing an understanding of what anxiety is. Anxiety is a very normal and even helpful reaction we have, but it can become destructive as well and tends to overreact. In order to work on anxiety we help you teach your brain new ways to interact with anxiety so we don’t increase it by engaging in old habits. While doing this we also help you find techniques that work for you to calm your brain so it can still function rationally when anxiety arises. Ultimately the goal is not to get rid of anxiety since this is not possible, but to make it so our body’s reaction is more appropriate to the situation. Additionally, we teach our body how to not dwell on anxiety so that we can find relaxation again.
