Trauma Treatment

Trauma is a big event in our life, something that has a lasting impact on us. This is often something that could result in loss of life of ourselves or a loved one. However, this is not the only trauma we can experience. There are also non life threatening situations that may occur often enough or impact us significantly enough that we develop a trauma response to it. When we have been impacted by trauma we tend to notice: feelings of going back to the event, flashbacks, anxiety or panic, not having control over our reactions, irritability, negative belief about ourselves and others, difficulty sleeping or concentrating.

Working with trauma takes an understanding approach. We don’t want to re traumatize you by plunging you back in to the event before you are ready so we make it clear that you are in control of the pace we go. First, we like to focus on resilience skills. We find things you can do to make the feelings more tolerable. Then we identify the feelings better so you can catch the reactions more quickly. From there, we discover with you the best way to proceed once you understand yourself and what does and doesn’t work. This way we help you to be able to feel control of your life again.
